About eduspeech canberra

EduSpeech Canberra delivers tailored speech therapy services to children and young adults by our clinicians with dual qualifications speech pathology and education.

Our speech pathologists have over 10 years of experience in schools around Australia.

This means EduSpeech Canberra will confidently deliver practical therapy services with the complexities of the school curriculum in mind. Our clinicians will be able to set goals with families that are realistic and functional in the child’s school and home settings.

EduSpeech Canberra brings the best of both worlds to children and their families. We want to promote the importance and value of an interdisciplinary approach when it comes to treating speech and language disorders in the paediatric population.

“[Speech pathologists] are not typically trained in curriculum design and delivery or classroom management. Conversely, teachers possess curriculum and classroom management knowledge and expertise, but have been shown to possess variable knowledge and expertise regarding oral language development, together with low knowledge of the language constructs that underpin the transition to literacy” (McLean, Snow and Serry, 2021)

For Australian families living overseas, continuing therapy with an Australian speech pathologist can provide valuable continuity of care. Therapy can be delivered in a familiar language and communication style while remaining aligned with Australian expectations and educational contexts. For children who may eventually return to Australia, working with an Australian speech pathologist can also support a smoother transition back into Australian schools, ensuring that their communication goals, therapy progress and support needs can be more easily understood and continued when they return home.

We run one-on-one assessment and therapy sessions online that are evidence-based during the week and on weekends. Subject to availability, times for these are flexible to help suit different schedules.

About oUR THERAPISTS

EduSpeech Canberra is unique in that all of our therapists have a background in education.

Our experience working within schools has given us firsthand insight into the language and literacy needs of students and the important role these skills play in learning. We are passionate about helping children develop strong foundations in speech, language and literacy, equipping them with the skills they need for success at school and beyond.

At our clinic, we assess and provide therapy for children whose parents and/or teachers have identified difficulties with understanding or using language and communicating effectively with others. This may include children who have difficulty reading or understanding what they have read, children who have difficulty producing speech sounds clearly, or children who find constructing sentences and expressing their ideas challenging.

Strong speech, language and literacy skills provide the foundation for the increasingly complex communication and learning demands children encounter throughout primary and secondary school, as well as in everyday life.
