About eduspeech canberra
EduSpeech Canberra delivers tailored speech therapy services to children and young adults by our clinicians with dual qualifications speech pathology and education.
Our speech pathologists have over 10 years of experience in schools around Australia.
This means EduSpeech Canberra will confidently deliver practical therapy services with the complexities of the school curriculum in mind. Our clinicians will be able to set goals with families that are realistic and functional in the child’s school and home settings.
EduSpeech Canberra brings the best of both worlds to children and their families. We want to promote the importance and value of an interdisciplinary approach when it comes to treating speech and language disorders in the paediatric population.
“[Speech pathologists] are not typically trained in curriculum design and delivery or classroom management. Conversely, teachers possess curriculum and classroom management knowledge and expertise, but have been shown to possess variable knowledge and expertise regarding oral language development, together with low knowledge of the language constructs that underpin the transition to literacy” (McLean, Snow and Serry, 2021)
About oUR THERAPISTS
EduSpeech Canberra is unique in that our therapists all currently come with a background in education.
Having careers that have immersed us in schools has allowed us to see firsthand the language and literacy needs of our students. We are passionate about helping children build strong speech, language and literacy foundations to prepare them for their future.
At our clinic we also assess and treat children whose parents and/or teachers have identified delays in their ability to understand language and communicate to others. This might include children who experience difficulties with reading and understanding what they have read, or children who cannot articulate sounds for accurate speech production, or perhaps children who find sentence construction challenging. These elements are necessary for higher level communication required in primary and secondary schooling, as well as in life.
